Indian Omicron tally hits 578, Delhi tops list with 142 cases

New Delhi, December 27 (UNI) India’s total count of the new variant of Covid-19 Omicron reached 578 points on Monday, as the infection spread to the other two states of Madhya Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh .

Of the 578 cases reported so far, Delhi reported the maximum number of cases at 142, followed by Maharashtra 141 and Kerala with 5, ministry data said on Monday.

Madhya Pradesh has reported 9 cases while Himachal, which is the first state to fully immunize its eligible population, has reported one case so far on Sunday.

Rajasthan reported 43, Telangana 41, Tamil Nadu 34, Karnataka 31, 6 each from Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal, four each from Odisha, Haryana and, three from Jammu and Kashmir and Chandigarh, 6 from West Bengal , UP reported a case with Ladakh and Uttarakhand.

Of these, 151 people were released after their recovery from the virus.

Meanwhile, India reported 6,531 new coronavirus cases and 315 deaths on Monday, according to the health ministry. This brought the total number of active cases to 75,841 and the number of deaths to 4,7997.

The recovery tally rose to 3,42 37,495 as 7,141 recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours. The active cases amounted to 75,841.

According to the bulletin released by the ministry on Monday, 67.29 crore of tests for Covid-19 have been carried out so far.

“India has so far administered 141.70 crore of Covid-19 vaccine doses as part of the ongoing national vaccination campaign,” the ministry data said.
