LIST: The 30 counties with the most seniors in Virginia

(STACKER) – Seniors will make up more than 20% of U.S. residents in 2030, up from 15% in 2020. By 2034, seniors will outnumber children, according to Census Bureau projections.

In the United States, 52 million Americans are 65 or older, according to the US Census Bureau, and a quarter of them live in just three states: California, Florida and Texas. The size of a state’s elderly population means a lot in terms of demand for resources such as health care, affordable housing, supported living, home care and nursing and support services, and quality and the availability of these resources help determine where older people migrate. .

Stacker compiled a list of counties with the most seniors in Virginia using data from the US Census Bureau. Counties are ranked by highest percentage of residents age 65 or older based on 2020 5-year estimates.
